This is the story of his fight to establish himself and his dynasty as the undisputed masters of the Orient. The clash of two Tai-Pan book is evident throughout the novel, and Clavell does an excellent Tai-Pan book of illustrating this clash.

After watching "Shogun" on DVD, I developed an interest in James Clavell's work so I started reading "Tai-Pan".

The book is good but I wouldn't exactly say it is a classic. It is the early 19th century and Scotsman Dirk Struan arrives in Hong Kong after a long and arduous voyage/5(). Tai-Pan by James Clavell and a great selection of related books, Tai Pan, First Edition.

A fat, gusty, commercial historical novel that will most probably sweep the bookstore windows on the strength of its narrative, Tai-Pan is a much better book than Clavell's first, King Rat.

It describes the British occupation of Hong Kong in and an empire built upon opium smuggling. Tai-Pan means supreme power and seadog Dirk Struan's Noble House is the supreme money power on. Download Tai-Pan free in PDF & EPUB format.
